Freighting a Mini Excavator to Regional Queensland: How It Works and What It Costs
Machines leave the Gold Coast warehouse for every part of Queensland. Depot versus door, what drives the price, transit times and how to be ready when the truck arrives.
Every Rippa machine sold in Queensland leaves the same place: the warehouse at Currumbin Waters on the Gold Coast. For Brisbane buyers that is an hour's drive. For Cairns it is 1,700 kilometres. Freight is part of the purchase for most of the state, and it pays to understand how it works.
Two ways to receive a machine
Depot collection. The machine goes on a general freight carrier to their depot in your regional centre (Townsville, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, Cairns and so on) and you collect it with your own trailer. Usually the cheapest option for anything under 3 tonnes.
Door delivery. A dedicated tilt tray or a freight carrier with a tailgate brings the machine to your property. Costs more, but it is the only practical option for the R32 PRO and up, for stations and for anyone without a suitable trailer.
What sets the price
- Weight and size. An R06 at 747 kg shares a truck with other freight; an R57 PRO at 5.7 tonnes needs a dedicated load.
- Distance and route. Bruce Highway towns are cheaper than off-highway properties; the outback is quoted per job.
- Access. A truck needs a firm, level spot to unload. Steep, soft or narrow access may need a smaller truck or a second handling step.
- Attachments. Buckets travel with the machine; a trencher or brush cutter may add to the load.

Wet-season flooding can close highways; allow for it between January and March.
Being ready
- Clear a firm, level unloading area at least a truck length long.
- Check overhead clearance for the tilt tray.
- Have someone there to sign and receive the walk-through.
- Have diesel ready; machines arrive with enough fuel to unload and test.
- Photograph the machine and the serial plates on arrival for your insurance.
